Joseph Drew Kendrick

Joseph Drew Kendrick, 87 of Edmond, OK, died of lung cancer at Mercy Hospital November 23^rd, 2016. He was born March 5, 1929, in Minden, LA. to Drew and Murl Kendrick. The family moved to El Dorado, Ark. when his father accepted a job at Lion Oil Company. Joe attended elementary school in El Dorado, his junior year at Woodward Military Academy in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from El Dorado High school in 1947. He attended Texas Christian University and University of Arkansas before graduating with a degree in Geology from NE Louisiana State College in Monroe, LA. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and after his discharge accepted a position with Nalco Chemical Company in Great Bend, Kansas. There he met and married Joan Rowe of Bazine, Kansas, July 24, 1960. Joe worked in sales and service in the oilfield industry until retirement. They lived in Great Bend, Plainville, and Russell, Kansas, before moving to Edmond, OK in 1976. Joe enjoyed life and cooking for family, friends, and the men’s dinner group at the church. He loved spending time fishing and golfing in his earlier years. He was a golf marshal at Kickingbird Golf Course and an active member of St Mary’s Episcopal Church, especially the monthly Men’s Dinner Group for which he selected and prepared steaks. He also prepared Hot German Potato Salad for October Fest. Joe had been a 32^nd degree Mason, a member of the Shriners, and the Edmond Elks Lodge and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lt. Col. Floyd Richard (Pete) Kendrick. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan, and children and spouses, Kim Welch and Andy of Aledo, TX, Tom Kendrick and Stacie of Edmond, OK and grandchildren Ryan Welch and Casey of Ft Worth, TX, Cullen Welch and Katie of Lubbock, TX, Caleb Welch of Aledo, TX and Colin Kendrick of Edmond, OK. A memorial service will be held on December 3, 2016 at St Mary’s Episcopal Church in Edmond at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Mary’s Episcopal Church, 325 E. First Street, Edmond, OK, 73034 or to cancer fund research at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 N.E. 13^th Street, OK City, OK.
