Jory Jason Mears

1976-2021

Jory Jason Mears of Edmond, OK, passed away unexpectedly July 18, 2021 at the age of 45.  He was born July 11, 1976 in Benkelman, Nebraska to Kevin and Teresa (Beers) Mears. He became a Child of God through the waters of Holy Baptism in August 1976 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Bird City, KS. He graduated from Cheylin High School in 1995, and then attended Kansas State University where he was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity and made lifelong friends. He then moved to Portland, Oregon to attend Western Culinary Institute where he earned his Associates in Culinary Arts Degree in 1998. He took his culinary skills to Vail, CO where he served as a Sous Chef at Sweet Basil, a very upscale restaurant. In 2001, he moved to Colby, KS to manage City Limits, a local bar and grill. During his time there, he met the love of his life Amanda Ansel. On September 4, 2004, they were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakin, KS. They moved and settled in Edmond, OK where they welcomed three beautiful children, Avery JoAnn (13), Harper Jean (9), and Wyatt Jason (6) who were the light of Jory’s life.

He grew up on a farm in McDonald, KS and spent most of his childhood in his family’s wheat fields. This is where his father passed down the love of shooting sports to him. He loved taking his children back to the farm to do all the things you can’t in the city. He was an avid K-State and Bronco fan, and a great cook that helped perfect family holiday meals and could grill a steak or hamburger to perfection. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he continued to follow his faith in Christ Jesus that he confirmed to God and family through Confirmation in May 1987. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his wife and kids, and cherished time with extended family and friends. He was the life of every party.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda, and children, Avery, Harper, and Wyatt of the home, his mother, Teresa Mears of Bonner Springs, KS, two sisters, Crystal Thompson and husband Dallas of Bonner Springs, KS, and Brandee Halbleib and husband Landen of Eudora, KS. 7 nieces and 5 nephews whom he loved dearly. Father and Mother-in-law, Bruce and Peggy Ansel of Lakin, KS. Sisters-in-law Amy Burch and husband Michael of Holcomb, KS and Alisha Henry and husband Jeff of Edmond, OK. Brother-in-law Curtis Ansel and wife Emily of Deerfield, KS. Numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins and countless friends who will all feel his loss and remember so many fun times with Jory.
