Joleen Maxine (Veverka) Carter was born on April 21st, 1959 to Joe and Joan Veverka in Plainville, Kansas. She married Mike (Peanut) Carter in 1992 after a long courtship. The couple recently renewed their vows after spending the last 33 years together. Together, they raised 3 beautiful children and several foster children. At the time of Joleen’s passing, she had 6 amazing grandchildren and several great nieces & nephews that she adored as grandchildren.

She was employed for many years at Sweet Surprises bakery as a baker before she started her own dog breeding business in Woodward, Oklahoma. Raising Havanese and Bernese Mountain dogs brought her great joy. She met many people as she blessed them with their furry friends.

In 2011, Joleen and Mike were ready for a new adventure and relocated to Guthrie, Oklahoma. It was here that Joleen branched out of her comfort zone and became involved in many hobbies. She began attending Community Church and Three Strands Ministry. She also became an active member of the Red Cross, took violin lessons and painting classes. She enjoyed riding horses and her 4-wheeler. Most evenings you could find her enjoying a sunset with her beloved Lexi-poo (Havanese puppy) on the front porch.

In April 2016, Joleen started her battle against cancer. Her strength and courage would be admired by many over the next year. Her faith in her Lord Jesus never wavered and she inspired many to keep fighting their own battles.

She was proceeded in death by her sister Cindy Shirley, brother Martin Davis, brother-in-laws Roger Shirley and Kim Ahrens, and parents Joe and Joan Veverka.

Joleen is survived by her husband Mike (Peanut) Carter of Guthrie; daughter Jessie Gregg and son-in-law Craig Yeomans of Beaver; daughter Stacy Sims and son-in law Steve Pennington of Yukon; son Michael Carter and daughter-in-law Amanda Tucker of Edmond; sister, Cheryl Ahrens of Kansas; grandchildren Bailey Gregg, Becca Gregg, Logan Yeomans, Cooper Yeomans, Avery Sims and Madysin Carter; nieces and nephews, Dawn and Chris Wight, Megan Shirley, Luke Shirley, Jason and Kelly Ahrens and Josh Ahrens.
