John Wiley, III
1927 – 2019
John Wiley III, age 92, of Edmond, OK went to be with his Lord on Friday, Oct 18th, surrounded by loving family. John will have been greeted by his brother Jimmy, daughter Judy and daughter-in-law, Susan, as well as others who have gone before, as he entered Heaven, his final home.
Born on June 29, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, John loved Jesus dearly, and lived his life to please Him. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the Navy during World War II, until he was honorably discharged and began his life-long adventure with his bride of 70 years, (Anna) Greta Wiley. While spending his entire career as an electrical engineer for Bell Telephone until his retirement, John and Greta lived in West Berlin, NJ with their seven children. While there, he was known as the “official” fix-it man as well as a man who poured into others lives, sharing his love of model airplanes and trains with many of the kids in the neighborhood. In 1995, John and Greta moved to Edmond, OK, where he served faithfully for years at Quail Springs Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher and deacon as well as serving on the mission board and several committees.
John will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Greta; sons, John, Tom and Michael (Stacy); remaining daughters, Lynn (Wayne), Jacquie (Frank) and Krissie (Bob); son-in-law, Sam, a full quiver of 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, his sister, Barbara and many other extended family members & friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019, at Quail Springs Baptist Church at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made, in John’s name, to Boys Ranch of Edmond, OK (obhc.org/about/campuses/brt/) or Samaritan’s Purse (samaritanspurse.org)
I have been privileged to know John Wiley through his two younger sons, Tom and Michael. Tom married my daughter, Susan, in 1990 and they raised three children together until Susan succumbed to cancer in 2014. Michael worked for me in the late 1990’s. These two young men exemplified the values and training that John and Greta instilled in them in all aspects of their association with me. Though my relationship with both Tom and Michael I have gained the highest regard for their parents and my appreciation for John and Greta for allowing me to know them is boundless. May God rest John in his new home and may He provide Greta and the rest of the family peace and comfort during this most difficult time.
Thank you Mr Needs! I know my Dad would quickly agree that Tom made an amazing choice in Susan! We love her dearly and I would love to have seen their reunion with my sister, Judy and many others.
