John Andrews Montgomery

John Andrews MontgomeryMontgomery, John

1942-2017

Once upon a time, in a magical land called Vinita, Oklahoma, the humans known as Hump and Betty sprouted a pod of beans. The two eldest were called Thomas and Donny, and the youngest and the greenest of these was called John. By the time, he was in 1st grade, John had met the love of his life, Sandra Theresa Patty. Though Sandra was neither green nor a bean, she liked him anyway and on June 4, 1962, they got married, and have been inseparable ever since.

Our dear bean served two tours in the navy, and then went on to become a salesman for the Enro shirt Company. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He loved to play golf and yell at the sports on TV. If you had him over for dinner and there happened to be a dog around, you could be sure that John was under the table sneaking it scraps. His love for dessert was rivaled only by his love for Sandra and his love for the Lord. He gave kindness away freely and made a friend wherever he went. The shirt on his back was yours if you needed it.

Dubbed “Greenbean” by his family, John Andrew Montgomery joined the big garden in the sky on March 20, 2017. He lives on through his children: John and his wife Sheila, and Jason and his wife Christi. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren (or grand-beans): Caleb and his wife Ashley, Hannah, Marigrace, Rachel, Sierra, Camille, and Quentin; and two great-grandchildren (or great-grand-beans): Milo and Maggie.

If the beloved Greenbean could say anything now, it would probably be “I’m glad you got to see me.”

Graveside service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK with Memorial Services following at1:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, Edmond, OK. Public visitation will be held Thursday, from 10:00-8:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home.
