Joan Elizabeth Hummer passed away peacefully on May 11th, 2023, surrounded by family.

Joan was born on October 15th, 1949, in Kinston, North Carolina to Robert and Ireleen Simmons. She was a graduate of Putnam City High school and worked for Fleming Foods in Oklahoma City.

She met her true love, Don Hummer, on a blind date. After a long courtship, the two married in 1977. They were blessed with one daughter Kimberly and enjoyed 37 years of marriage before Don’s passing. In Joan’s own words, the two greatest loves of her life were her husband and daughter. They were two of God’s greatest gifts to her, and because of them, she lived a very happy and fulfilled life.

Known for her generosity, she volunteered her time at many places. She volunteered at Children’s Hospital doing arts and crafts. She was the leader of a girl’s group that participated in learning and social activities. She was involved at her church, serving as coordinator for mobile meals, and on the social ministries board. She also enjoyed her time volunteering as a school library and teaching assistant.

In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she was also a talented painter. She had a passion for antiques. She enjoyed spending her time with family vacationing in Colorado, attending concerts, music festivals and auto races.

Joan is preceded in death by her mother, father and husband. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly, sister Diane, and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday May 17th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Interment is to follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
