1954 – 2015
JESSE ROBERT “Rob” MILLS (60) of Edmond
Jesse Robert Mills traded his earthly existence for a better life on Tuesday, February 17th, 2015. Born March 14th, 1954, in Edmond, he was preceded in death by his father Harold Dempsey Mills; grandparents Henry Washington and Mary Elizabeth Johnson; most of his aunts and uncles; and first cousins Harold “Pete: Byers, Paula (Johnson) Baker and Tom Byers. He was survived by his mother Mary Ann Mills of Edmond and a host of cousins and friends.
Rob or Robbie, as those close knew him, was raised in Edmond. As a little tyke, he had coffee most mornings with his Grandpa Johnson, who he loved dearly. In turn he was the apple of his grandpa’s eye. He was an only child, but, besides his parents and grandparents, he was also dearly loved by his Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Paul Byers.
During his youth he played football and graduated from Edmond High School. He loved music, was an avid fisherman and loved all things outdoors. During his adult life he worked as a mud engineer and land tech. Later in life he followed somewhat in his beautician mother’s footsteps and served as a barber.
Rob had a great personality, was very caring and will be remembered for his love of family. After many years apart, he and his mother were both looking forward to a reunion just weeks away when he met his untimely death due to several health issues. His remains were cremated so he could be buried with his beloved mother, who was expected to soon follow. “Why” was his favorite word when he was little. He now knows “Why,” while the rest of us must wait to know why they were kept apart when they were so close to being reunited. But, we rejoice that they are now together again. The family will greet friends from 7-8p.m. at the Funeral home on Tuesday. A Memorial Service for Jesse Mills will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd at 9 a.m., at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, Oklahoma.
