Jerry Don Scott

1936-2018

Jerry Don Scott went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2018. He was born September 14, 1936 to Clifton & Carrie Lou Scott in Saint Louis, Oklahoma.

Jerry graduated Atoka High School in 1954, Oklahoma University in 1958 with a BA statistics, a MBA in 1968, and an ABD in Marketing in 1978.

While Jerry was attending OU, he met and married the love of his life, Lagenise VanScoder on August 15, 1958 in Norman. OK.

Jerry served his country in the US Army in 1959, as 1^st Lieutenant and then Captain in 1964. He enjoyed a career of corporate life in St. Louis, MO and Chicago, IL. Jerry then returned to Oklahoma to follow his passion to be a college professor. He always desired to prepare young people to accept the challenges of life by using their education to improve the world.

Jerry enjoyed and loved life as a husband, father, grandfather & Great-grandfather. He was an veracious reader, researcher, and emphatically kept himself and others updated on everything from politics to Thunder basketball. Jerry LOVED food, which involved reading menus and cookbooks, to find delicious recipes for Genise to cook for him.

Jerry also loved to travel and fish. He enjoyed meeting his first Grandchild in Europe, their 50^th anniversary cruise to Alaska, and a treasured memory was a family trip with the all the grandchildren to see the Tee Tons and Yellowstone Park.

Jerry & Genise were blessed with a loving, caring family. He loved the Lord, becoming a Christian in 1954. He studied Gods Word daily with his wife and prayed for his family to accept the love of Jesus, to enjoy a happy life on earth, and prepare for eternal life in heaven. He left this world in the arms of his wife to the arms of his Savior, Jesus.

Jerry Don Scott is survived by Genise, his wife of 59 years; son Trent Scott and wife Marcia of Edmond; and daughter Lael Whitlock and husband Noel of Searcy, AR. Four Granddaughters: Jessica Yocum MD, and husband Sonny of Edmond; Joelle Krantz COTA, and husband Cody of Murfreesboro, TN; Rachael Burke, DVM candidate, and husband Brendan of Tulsa, OK; Natalie Stirrup, PharmD candidate, and husband Dylan of Searcy, AR. One Grandson, Kenny Scott, Engineer,MBA, and wife Averi of Tulsa, OK. One Great-Grandson, Wyatt Yocum of Edmond, OK; and a second Great-grandchild due in September. Two brothers; Earl Scott MD and wife Debbie; and Larry Scott and wife Della; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to In Search of the Lord’s Way ministry at the Edmond Church of Christ.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2018 at Matthews Funeral Home.  Services will be at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Edmond Church of Christ Chapel.
