Jerry B. Schneider

1942-2013

Schneider, Jerry obit pictRet. Colonel Jerry B.Schneider was born August 1942 to Bernard and Mildred Schneider. An avid sportsman who hunted game here and abroad, Jerry could recite the hunter’s prayer in German and tell stories for hours. His stories of adventures growing up in the small thriving town of DuQuoin, Illinois, amidst a large family he adored, could transport you to another time where old men sat together in a smoky dark room drinking the wine they had made with the grapes they had grown and family came together to make apple butter and link sausage while the smell of cinnamon and sage filled the air.

Many of his stories featured his years in the Army from 1965-1994 and his two tours in Vietnam. Jerry loved commanding troops, was a true patriot, and proud of his military service and the men who served with him.

In that spirit we request, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or his other favorite charity, St. Jude’s Hospital. Jerry was a renaissance man whose passions ranged from cooking to writing to creating beautiful landscape paintings.

After many years of challenging health issues he succumbed to a massive coronary January 30th 2013. Jerry leaves behind his mother Mildred Schneider, wife Penny Schneider, daughters Tanya Adamson, Casey Walling and January Divelbiss, stepsons Jeff Helmig and Rick Helmig, seven grandchildren, and too many others, who loved him and he loved, to list.

“Hope your journey is as much fun as mine has been.” – Jerry B. Schneider

A party will be held to celebrate his life at a later date.
