brownd jean picJean Shirley Brownd passed away in Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the age of 74. She is preceded in death by her father Glenn C. Stone and her mother Addie Mae Stone. Jean is survived by Donald L. Brownd, her loving husband of 55 years; sons Damon Brownd and wife Linda, Ken Brownd and wife Janet; daughter Kathy Plitzuweit and husband Paul.

She is also survived by her brothers Gary Stone, Jerry Stone and wife Kathy, David Stone and wife Charlie, and seven grandchildren. Born Jean Shirley Stone in Plainview, Texas on December 20, 1938, she received her education there and was valedictorian of the Plainview High School class of 1957. She attended West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas. Jean and Don were married in Plainview, Texas on May 9, 1958 and began their family while living in Sweetwater, Texas. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be deeply missed. Jean enjoyed people and built a successful career in sales and management that spanned a period of 12 years. She was also a talented artist and made beautiful paintings and ceramics.

She always gave the best of herself and excelled in her life endeavors. Living a life of service to her Lord was important to her. Jean was a dedicated member of Village Baptist Church for 48 years. Over the years she taught Bible study classes, children’s choir, and gave of herself in many other church activities. One of the joys of her life was singing for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as a soloist in the church choir, and as a member of The Singing Churchwomen of Oklahoma for over 20 years. Jean leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that deeply touched all who knew her. She will long be remembered for the joy in her heart and the song of her life.

Visitation will be held at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, Oklahoma 73003 on Tuesday, October 8, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, at 1:00 PM at Village Baptist Church, 10600 N. May Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73120 with Rev. Ken Brownd and Rev. Jimmy Kinnaird officiating. Burial to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond.
