Jay Stanley Brown, at the age of 60, from Edmond, Oklahoma went to Our Father on April 15, 2019. Born in Fontainebleau, France to Charles and Joy Brown on October 31, 1958. Stan is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lisa Brown, son and daughter-in-law, Taylor and Katie Brown, daughter and son-in-law, Torrie and Josh Halbert and one granddaughter Charlee Halbert. Stan is further survived by his mother, Joy Brown, his loving sisters and brothers-in-law Pam and Dave Timmons, Jenny and Bill Oliver, and Sherri and Curtis Thorpe, parents-in-law Jim and Pat Maskus and brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Kelsi Maskus. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Stan is preceded in death by his father, Charles Brown and brother-in-law, Lonnie Clark.
Stan was an extraordinary man with a generous spirit. Spending most of his childhood in Norman, Oklahoma, he was a devout Sooner fan. From an early age, Stan excelled in athletics especially baseball. From Norman High, he continued his baseball career as a Wichita State Shocker pitching his way into the college world series. During his years in Wichita, Stan met the love of his life, Lisa and later married her in 1981.
Stan spent most of his professional life working in insurance claims. He was passionate about his career and cherished every relationship developed along the way. As a role-model and confidant, Stan influenced lives as both a baseball and softball coach to many. He was a loyal and vocal supporter even when it wasn’t fully appreciated by his children.
Every person Stan encountered through his life’s journey was greeted with an enormous smile and his iconic bear hug. With intense love and compassion, he sought to bring joy to the lives of those around him. He was a supportive husband, committed son, loving brother, encouraging father, and a caring “pop pop”. Stan was non-judgemental and strove to be inclusive of all walks of life, the homeless, the disabled, and the indigent. He will always be remembered as “the most generous man we knew”.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Matthews Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donation be made in Jay’s honor to: The Meadows Center for Opportunity, Inc., or The Oklahoma Autism Center.
Thoughts and prayers are being sent to you and your family. I have such wonderful memories of our time together at Wichita State. Stan, like Loren was much to young to be taken from us. Shark and Stan are having a good reunion in Heaven.
Stan was a great friend, teammate, and person. He loved life and his family even more. He’s leaving a big hole in a lot of hearts.

It was with great sadness that we learned of Stan’s passing.
We are very grateful that we got to know Stan as a friend, mentor and colleague.
Stan was taken too soon and he will be missed.
