James ” Jim” Richard Turner

April 20, 1964 – October 6, 2021

James Richard Turner, affectionally known as Jim or Jimmy, passed away October 6th, 2021 due to complications from Covid. Jim was born in Oklahoma City April 20, 1964 to parents James (Jim) and Annalee Turner. He graduated from Western Heights High School in 1982 with honors. Jim then headed to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater to pursue a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, graduating in December of 1986. Two weeks later, he married his sweetheart, Lisa Kysar, on December 27, 1986. The newlyweds moved around during the early years of their marriage, and soon welcomed their two children, Elizabeth and Joseph, to the family.

Jim loved his family more than anything, and raising his family was one of his most proud accomplishments. He was an avid supporter of local boy scout troop 479, leading the troop as assistant scout master all through Joseph’s scouting years. Fixing things and making people laugh were two of his passions, and Jim used these skills to build a successful career with HPE, earning the title of Master Technologist throughout his years of service.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lisa, children Elizabeth (Beth) and Joseph, as well as his half-sisters, Sharon, Terri, and Sandy.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, beginning at 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 10:30 AM.

Interment to follow at Jamison Cemetery, CO Rd 50, Harrah, OK 73045.

  1. I did not personally know Jim and only had the opportunity to work with him on very few occasions. He nevertheless was an ever-present fixture in our group. I wish Lisa and the rest of his family my profound condolences and all the very best.

I worked with Jim in the early 2000’s at Hertz. He was a wonderful co-worker who was patient, kind and funny. In later years we were both up in Denver, he for a gig, and I for a class, so we met up and had supper together. Good times! My deepest condolences.

I worked with Jim for over a decade at HP/HPE. He was an amazing person, both from a human and a technical perspective. He carried the torch for the Data Protector community world wide for many years, affectionately known as ‘Mr. T’. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing, and am sending my heartfelt condolences to Jim’s family. Jim, you will be greatly missed. Safe journey, my friend.

I worked with Jim many times in my career. He was the goto guy! I am so sorry to hear the news of his passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this time of grief.
I would believe that Jim is now installing a StoreOnce appliance in Heaven and upgrading all their servers.

    God speed Jim.

I can only remember Jim as an outstanding and exceptional person. I had the opportunity to share a group of people in HP/HPE with a common interest and Jim was always willing to help, even us people from a remote geography like South America. I also remember his always present sense of humor.
My most deepest condoles to his family and friends.
God has now one of the most finest engineers in Heaven.

    Good Bye Jim.

Jim aka Mr. T was an amazing person! I had the privilege of working with him for over 10 years. Jim was an amazing friend and coworker. There is not enough space to list the great things about Jim. He was always there when you needed him, someone that you could always count on and would do anything for you or anyone, the word “no” or “it can’t be done” did not exist in his vocabulary he always found a way. As someone has already said he carried the torch for the Data Protector Community worldwide. Jim always put his full heart and soul into everything that he did always with a smile on his face and he loved his family and enjoyed life to the fullest!
Sending my heart felt condolences to Jim’s family, I am so sorry for his passing! Please know that Jim touched a lot of lives and always left a positive impression on each one, he will not be forgotten.
Jim, I will miss you my friend but never forgotten, like the rest of us I am deeply saddened and I will miss you and our conversations. Safe journeys my friend!

Though we lived on opposite sides of the planet, Jim and I developed a very close relationship as colleagues within HP/HPE and continuing when I split off with MicroFocus. We collaborated on several projects involving Data Protector and were always talking at odd hours of the day/night in our respective timezones but, as well as being colleagues, I was happy to call Jim my friend. He was a gentleman and always had a kind word to say about everyone and everything. I was privileged to meet Jim in person in Atlanta and I treasure that memory. The world had lost a special person, and my thoughts and sympathy is with his family. RIP my friend.
