James Louis Goetz
1937-2023
James Louis (Jim) Goetz, 86, of Thayer, Mo went to be with the Lord on August 18, 2023.
Jim was born May 15, 1937, to Nicholas and Zella (Duffy) Goetz. He was raised on a farm in Guthrie, Oklahoma alongside 3 brothers, Carl, Nicki and Paul as well as 3 sisters, Helen, Alice and Ruth. He graduated Guthrie High School in 1955. Tough times as a young man and aspirations of getting rich caused him to travel north with his best friend to become door to door salesmen selling photo packages. After months of hard luck and selling the 1940 Ford, he wrote Vera, his girlfriend at the time that he was stranded. She begged her daddy to go get him and bring him home. Jim and Vera married in 1957 and they had four boys Terri, Allen, Curtis and Kris. He worked a short time for Collins-Dietz-Morris Co where he learned to drive a truck. He then went to work for Scrivner, Inc where he remained for 30 plus years until his retirement in 1992.
Those that knew Jim knew he was a hard worker and gracious with his income when close family was in need. He was kind, caring and willing to help a friend or brother down on their luck. He never forgot the hard times he had a young man and did not want others to face the same.
Jim is survived by his three sons: Allen Goetz and wife Pamela of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Curtis Goetz of Georgia; and Kris Goetz of Moore, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Ryan, Holly, Nick, Megan
and Hannah; great grandchildren: Charlotte, Evan, Lily, Steven and Caroline; one sister, Helen Cleek and many nieces and nephews; his first wife Vera Combs Cooper and his special longtime friend, Patricia McAbee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nickolas & Zella Goetz; his son, Terri James Goetz, his wife Kay Stuever Goetz; brothers Carl Goetz, Nicki Goetz, Paul Goetz; sisters Alice Collier and Ruth Terronez.
Anyone wishing to speak or share their memories may do so. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Arbor Day Foundation.
