James Joseph Doherty, 84, Edmond died Christmas Eve morning, December 24, 2015. Wake service and rosary will be held for James at Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond at 6:00 PM Tuesday, December 29. A funeral mass will be held at 9:00 AM Wednesday, December 30 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, followed by burial at 1:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton.
James was born July 6, 1931 in Quincy, MA. He graduated from Boston College with a BA in Accounting. James married Patricia Bernadette Campbell on January 2, 1955 in Wollaston, MA. He served honorably in the U.S. Army for 20 years retiring as a LTC, then worked for a bank, taught accounting at Cameron University in Lawton and owned an accounting business.
James was ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church in in 1987 and served for 29 years, most recently at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Doherty.
Survivors include his, one daughter: Sheila M. Duhon, The Woodlands, TX and one son: James J. Doherty, Jr., Edmond; one sister: Geraldine Welch of Massachusetts; one brother: Richard Doherty of Massachusetts, 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, one son and one grandchild.
