He was the first ever to be chosen two years in a row by the state of Oklahoma.  Coach Bud Wilkinson of the undefeated Oklahoma Sooners visited his home several times over a two year period prepping him for acceptance into the University of Oklahoma.  Unfortunately, Dad chose the excitement of the United States Army over college football.  He served in the United States Army RA Infantry where he specialized in heavy weapons from Aug 3, 1953 to Aug 2, 1956.  He graduated from airborne school on Feb 5, 1954.  He was part of the XVIII Airborne Corp, 82 Division, Support Company 505th.  He then served in the Army Reserve from Aug 2, 1956 to July 31, 1961.  He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Parachutist Badge (jump wings).  After military service, he studied Heating & Air Conditioning and continued this career for the next 30 years.  Dad loved the outdoors.  Some of his favorite things to do where fishing, hunting, boating, metal detecting, gardening, camping, collecting coins and stamps.  He shared his knowledge of all these things with everybody he knew, especially all his kids, grandkids and great grandkids.  We love you dad and will miss you deeply. He was preceded in death by his mother Lavina Decker, father James Knox Sr., brother Marion Knox and son-in-law Kenny Killion.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years Carole Knox, brother Bob Knox Sr. and wife Jennie and their children Rob and Darrin, sister Sandra and her husband Mike Murphy and their children Garett, Danette and Bryan.   1. Knox Family;

    My family and I are so sorry for your loss.

    I grew up with Mike, and Jim was always a wonderful and kind person to me.

    He would always joke & kid around with Mike & I and make us laugh.

    Our prayers are with you.

    Rick Robbins

  2. Mike, I am sorry I was unable to coordinate a visit before Jim’s passing and his memorial service but I had some health issues and urgent family matters. You had a great dad, a wonderful man and my hero in his youthful years in Edmond. All of you kids of Jim will always be in my mind and my heart. I hope to visit all of you sometime in the future.
