Iris Dean Deurmyer (Davis), age 71, passed from this life on Saturday, June 29, 2019. Iris was born in Edmond on April 13, 1948, to Gladys Davis. She grew up on the Christener Family Homestead Farm near Cashion, OK. She attended twelve years at Cashion school, was a member of the Cashion Methodist Church, and attended four years at the University of Central Oklahoma majoring in Special Education. After marriage and her first son, she moved to Oregon, having a second son, David Deurmyer, that died as an infant. She had her third son, Jeremy, and then returned to her family who were living in Mangum, Oklahoma in 1989.
Throughout her life she filled many roles in her community. She was “Miss D” as a substitute teacher, at Teen Town, and at with the Methodist Youth. She served many people in their homes, providing comfort and end of life care. She traveled across Oklahoma, other states, and to international destinations and people groups to show Jesus to others. She was also a published author, enjoyed writing short stories, poems, and children’s ministry works.
For over ten years, Iris has been the Pastor of Mt. Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church near Hinton, OK. As part of her ministry there, she set up the RE-store Thrift Store to meet clothing and houseware needs of the community and generate funds given in the name of Jesus. She worked to preserve the Hinton Food Bank, and established the Prayer House in Weatherford, OK, across from the SWOSU.
Her earthly life has been filled with love, prayer, and rejoicing. She was a faithful reader and follower of the Bible. She loved God, family, and other people. She enjoyed wildlife, especially birds, her flowers, and time outdoors. She exhibited her love of Jesus everyday with her caring and selfless ways. She strove to have Jesus shine through her.
Iris was preceded in death by her Mother, Gladys; brother, Darrell “Bub;” sister, Frances; and infant son, David. She is survived by son, Chris, his wife, Alice, and granddaughters, Katie and Ella; her son, Jeremy, his wife, Morgan, and grandchild, baby Deurmyer, whom she just learned about; sister, Roberta Williams, her husband, Richard, that she considered a brother; other close family, Brian and Shari Kloos, their kids, Erin and Jerry Teddy; Ben MacKenzie and Logan Kloos with son, Cooper; and Casen Kloos; Brian and Michelle Williams, their daughter, Piper; and Danny Dean, considered a son, his wife, Denise, their daughters and grandson; and Iris’ large extended network of friends and loved ones.
Public visitation will be held Wednesday, July 3rd from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2019 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Christner Cemetery in Edmond, OK.

My soul was rich with her as friend and mentor. I would travel across the world to see her again, but I know I just need to worship the Lord fervently to be with her! Chris, Alice and kids, Jermemy, Morgan, and child- Abide in the Lord and His abode will be in you. The root word of abode is mansion. You had the best mom and she is in your soul. She is a saint no doubt if anybody is. Your family will always be in my prayers. I’m sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Iris made church fun to learn about the Bible and ALWAYS had a smile and hug for all the kids at Teen Town, the Methodist Youth House, and at Kingdom Kids! She will be greatly missed by everyone! Many prayers for all the family.
We grieve with Iris’s family and host of friends at the passing of our dear friend. We loved Iris so much and always enjoyed visiting with her. She was a wonderful example of a true saint of God. We will miss her. We look forward to seeing her again in Heaven very soon.

Earth’s loss is heaven’s gain. Iris was a wonderful lady with a beautiful spirit. She was certainly a prayer warrior and a lady who loved to worship her Lord. We will miss her, but we know she is having the time of her life–worshiping around the throne of God. All of us will join you soon, Iris!

To the family, just wanted to say I loved Iris a lot. She touched my life she loved y’all so much and her grandkids she talked about y’all. I know she was so blessed that Katie and her dad went to Israel. She helped me through many things, I flagged with her and I remember us working on a great desire of her heart.
