Hugh Taylor Burns

1959 – 2021

Hugh “Taylor” Burns, age 61, passed away at home on November 17th, 2021.

Taylor was born December 27, 1959 in Arkansas City, Kansas to Theodore Taylor Burns and Juanita May Pappan. Taylor met his first wife Marie Singleton and they married on June 2, 1981, in Amarillo, Texas and moved to Edmond, Oklahoma where he resided and worked at Purina for over 38 years. Together they had two children, daughter, Sarah Marie Burns and son, Aaron Taylor Burns.  Marie and Taylor were married for 20 years and separated in 2001.  In 2002, Taylor met Annette Willis. They enjoyed playing pool, and each others company, so much so, they married March 31, 2005. Taylor took pride in his job at Purina, where he met many friends over his 38 years. Mike Lackey was one of his closest friends who passed away in 2005. Taylor retired from Purina in early 2019.

He loved to play catch with his daughter and golf with his son.  He loved animals, babies, and playing jokes on people.  Taylor became like a father to Annette’s children, Jesse “Jess” Henry III and Art Willis “Willie” Henry, III. He was ornery and loved to played jokes on people just to watch them jump. He loved and spoiled his three fur babies, Ollie, Maxx, and BB. Over the years Taylor took many trips to Arizona to visit his Navajo relatives on the reservation. He loved the peace he found while he was there.

He was not an overtly religious person, but he did speak about his relationship with God. His wife, Annette, can recall him watching Christian movies and expressing emotion regarding his relationships with his family. During the last two years he reached out and spent more time with his children and his ex-wife, to strengthen his relationships with them. Taylor loved every family celebration and he was more fulfilled towards the end of his life.

Taylor is survived by wife Annette Michelle Burns, his two children Sarah Marie Burns and Aaron Taylor Burns, his ex-wife Marie Faye Burns, his two stepsons, Jess and Willie Henry, and 9 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. His mother, Juanita May Warren, brothers; Robert Allen, Theodore Taylor, Steve Trammell, sisters; Wanda Mae Mercer, Cindy May Pruitt, Earleen Steele, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
