Summer Elise Bergerson

Summer Elise Bergerson

2003 – 2022

Summer Elise Bergerson was born on July 22nd, 2003 to Brian and Amber Bergerson in Norman, OK. She left the loving embrace of her parents and her big brother Ty and entered the healing embrace of Jesus on June 15th, 2022, following a courageous battle against leukemia. Jesus has promised all who believe in him will be healed from their earthly afflictions. While we fervently prayed for and hoped for Summer to experience an earthly healing, the Lord fulfilled his promise to heal her in His presence instead of ours.

Originally diagnosed with leukemia on May 22nd, 2017, it was often stated that if Summer would not have lost her beautiful red hair, that you would have never known she was sick. She continued to live her life to the fullest. Summer was a fierce competitor, which prepared her to be a fierce fighter in her battle against cancer. She regularly attended school and Switch, her Wednesday night youth program, in between her chemotherapy treatments. She just continued to do it all, even though there were a few speed bumps, “pauses” and “dashes” along the way.

Summer “rang the bell” on September 26th, 2019 and quickly moved past that 28 month journey to living a healthy, beautiful life. She resumed the “normal life” of being a teenager, hanging out with friends, going to Switch, working, and attending prom. In May of 2021, she graduated high school from Santa Fe High School in Edmond, OK, where she lived her entire life. She found her own way on her own terms, never holding back. She followed her heart and took off to Gunnison, CO to attend Western Colorado University as one of only 470 freshman. She was loving it!

Unfortunately, her leukemia returned during her first semester in college. She returned to Oklahoma to begin her fight again. She fought so hard but was called home to be with Jesus, to add some spunk to Heaven. While our hearts are hurting with indescribable pain, we are so blessed that Summer was ours for 18 years, 10 months, and 24 days. When people hear the word “summer”, they think of one of the 4 seasons, hot weather, and lake time, all of which Summer loved. When we hear “Summer”, we think of our daughter, who was our Sunrise Orange, our spunky little girl who grew into a beautiful woman. She was passionate and loved her family, her friends, and her pets.

Summer is survived by her loving parents Brian and Amber Bergerson and her big brother Ty. She also leaves behind her grandparents Gene and Judy Bergerson and Mike and Charlotte Anderson, great grandma Helen Anderson, her aunts and uncles Nancy and Terry Young, Brenda and Russ Wood, Azure and Michael Borea, Tiffany Light, Brittany Light, Stacia and Brad Carr, Justin and Marseille Hasselman, Derick and Stacy Hasselman, great aunt Linda Donly, and her cousins Lacy and Cassidy Howerton, Rachel and Joey Biby, Kaitlyn and Andrew Siemer, Jimmy Wood, Mya Light, Brett, Brock and Savannah Carr, Jacob Hasselman, and Nate Brannan. Summer also leaves behind many friends who will forever cherish all the memories they created together.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Summer’s honor to The KClub at www.kclubkindness.org.
