Shirley Patrick Mankin

1935-2022

Shirley Patrick Mankin passed away while surrounded by her loving family on May 9th, 2022 at the age of 86.  She was born September 21st, 1935 to Travern and Lorene Cosby in Asher, Oklahoma.  Shirley was raised in Oklahoma City, and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1953, then graduated from Central State University with an Education degree.  Shirley was a high school English Literature teacher, first at Putnam City High School, and then at Putnam West, where she made many lifelong friends.

She loved all things literature and art. Shirley was a member of the OKC Museum of Art, and previously served as a Docent. Also, she belonged to the Oklahoma Art Guild, and the Oklahoma Watercolor Association.

From her marriage to Dave Patrick came two children and from her marriage to Haven Mankin, she gained five more.

Shirley is survived by her children Paula and David Kerrigan, Douglas Patrick, grandchildren Katie and Taylor Shinn, Kimberly and Jed Ferguson, great grandchildren Hazel Shinn, Tredway Shinn, Everett Ferguson, and Van Ferguson,  sister June and John Thompson, and niece Susan and Kurt Gray.  Also, step children Haven D. and Candy Mankin, Reed and Jing Mankin, Jarrette and Jan Mankin, Ward and Nancy Mankin, Leslie and Bryan Smith, ten Mankin grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceeded in death by her beloved husband, Haven Mankin, her parents, nephew Michael Thompson, and great granddaughter Frances Ferguson.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, May 27th at Mayflower UCC, 3901 NW 63rd Street in Oklahoma City.
