Shawn William Shaw was born on November 23, 1966, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to parents Dickie and Jan Shaw. Shawn grew up in Del City, OK attending Del City High School. He played baseball for the Eagles and was in the proud class of 1985. Shawn went to the University of Central Oklahoma on a baseball scholarship where he played second base and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
Shawn started working in the transportation industry straight out of college. From working the docks to sales to terminal Manger, Shawn knew the industry better than anyone. In May of 2021 Shawn joined the R& L Carriers family. He loved the company and the people and had planned to finish out his career and retire there.
Shawn met his wife Shelly in a golf class at UCO. They dated for 4 years before getting married in 1990 and that started a beautiful 31-year marriage. Shawn and Shelly established their home in Edmond, where they raised their two boys.
1991 started the proudest chapter of Shawn’s life, his first son Tyler William was born, and then 382 days later his second son Kyle William was born. Shawn’s life was full, following his boys around, watching them play football and baseball, wrestling and traveling to San Diego to see his son Kyle who was stationed there in the Navy. Everyone who knew Shawn knew how proud he was of both of his boys. They were the light of his life. Shawn got to see his sons marry the love of their lives, when Zana and Ashle’ joined his family, he finally got the daughters he never had.
2019 changed Shawn’s life once again, he transformed from a boy’s dad to a granddaughters Papa when Gentry Grace and Maelynn Rose were born. He traded in cleats and helmets for Valentine teddy bears and learning the “Papa Dance” from Gentry and Maelynn. His life was then topped off when Mattie Jolene was born. He always said, “these girls make me soft!”.
Outside of family, Shawn’s greatest joy was golf. He loved being out on the golf course with family and friends. He was like a kid in a candy store when he was getting his clubs ready to head out the door to go play.
Shawn was a bright shining light in this world for Jesus. Shawn’s faith, family and friends were always the center of his life. If you knew Shawn, you were better for it.
