Sarah McFarland
1929 – 2022
Sarah Eleanor Parker McFarland was born on December 26, 1929 in Nashville, TN to Hermon and Mary Parker. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Kansas City, KS where she graduated from Rosedale High School.
After completing her freshman year at Abilene Christian College, she transferred to Central Christian College in Bartlesville (the forerunner of Oklahoma Christian University). Sarah and six others made up the first graduating class. It was there she met and married her true love, Charles “Bud” McFarland, beginning a honeymoon that stretched around the world and lasted almost 70 years. From Kansas to Oklahoma, Indonesia, the Philippines, Pakistan and Oman, Sarah made a home for her husband and family. Her love and dedication to the Lord and her tremendous hospitality have literally been felt around the world. After retirement Bud and Sarah spent several years on Lake Livingston near Huntsville, TX faithfully attending the Onalaska Church of Christ. In 2008, Bud and Sarah made their home in Edmond attending Memorial Road Church of Christ. Sarah loved to sing and was a charter member of the Sonlight Singers. She was an active participant in CWBS and a friend to many.
On January 6, 2022, Sarah went home to be with the Lord, and is survived by her loving husband Bud, her four children Nancy (and Don) McClendon of McKinney, TX, Susan (and Bruce) Smith of Edmond, OK, Charles (and Ji) McFarland of Edmond, OK, Creel (and Heather) McFarland of Edmond, OK and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday January 10th at Matthews Funeral Home, with family present to greet friends. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday January 11th at Memorial Road Church of Christ, with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery.
