Richard Donald Cypher
1928-2022
Richard D. (Dick) Cypher passed away on October 29, 2022.
Dick is survived by two daughters, Julie Cypher Hale and Melanie Cypher; Melanie’s partner, James Patterson; two grandchildren, Bailey and Glynnis; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was born in Wilmar, California on July 17, 1928. Dick attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1951. He then went to work for Sunray DX Oil Company in Newhall, California. In December 1951 he met and soon married the love of his life, Betty Cypher. Just prior to their marriage in 1952, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed out of Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in 1962.
Dick lived in Edmond for the last 37 years. He was an avid tennis player during his early Edmond years. After ceasing to play tennis, he devoted much of his time to the Edmond History Museum and the local genealogy society. Dick and Betty traveled the world together, visiting Alaska, Russia, England, Poland, Ireland and Italy (twice!), to name just a few of the places.
He loved his cats, his current being his Pixie-bob, Sasha. He was a recent member of the SAR, Oklahoma City Chapter.
A lasting legacy Dick left us is this: Live your life to its fullest. Don’t waste a minute of it!
