Norma Jean (Jones) Kidd
1934 – 2022
Norma Jean (Jones) Kidd, age 88, was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on February 13, 1934, and passed away on April 24, 2022 in Oklahoma City. Her Christian faith and love of scripture were the foundation of her life, and she was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist church at the time of her death.
Norma Jean graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and Gardner-Webb Jr. College. As a young adult she worked for the IRS, served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and the State Department in Tunisia. Later in life, she worked as a secretary/office manager in a variety of businesses, but said her most fulfilling job was being a wife and mother. One of her last statements was to say how important family was to her.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, John Wallace Kidd. Together, they shared many travel adventures and made homes in several states. Norma Jean enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, cross-stitch, trying new recipes, working in the yard, coaching softball, and watching Atlanta Braves or Little League baseball. She was a master planner, organizer, and proof-reader!
She is also survived by daughter Denise Kidd Reece (husband Don) of Oklahoma and son John Kevin Kidd (wife Julie) of Florida. Her grandchildren are Kristy Kidd Woodham (husband Anthony), Lindsey Kidd, Rebekah Reece Metz (husband Josh), Jamie Kidd, David Reece, Noah Reece, Marshal Kidd, and Jared Kidd (wife Amy). She was delighted by great-granddaughters Meredith and Felicity Woodham.
‘Little Sister’ Norma Jean will be greatly missed by her older siblings Muriel James and Byron Jones (wife Valliere) of Georgia. Special nieces and nephews survive her also.
Norma Jean was predeceased by her mother Pansy Corn Jones, her aunt Willar Mae “Billie” Corn, brother-in-law Jack James, sister Dot Thomas, and grandson Nathan Reece.
Memorial service will be at Fraser Funeral Home in Jacksonville, FL, Saturday, April 30, at 2:00pm following Visitation at 1:00pm. She will be interred in the Jacksonville National Cemetery after a private family ceremony.
Because Norma Jean was a breast cancer survivor, it was her request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
