Nolan Wayne Butler

1958-2022

Nolan Wayne Butler (aka Big Papa) gained his wings on September 25, 2022, at the young age of 64.

Nolan comes from a large family, he was the youngest BOY of 5 children born to Harry Lee and Berdina Jane Butler, on April 12, 1958, in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was always a hard worker and provider for his family. He worked at Ralston Purina as a Maintenance Technician and Union President for many years. He then furthered his education and became a Computer Programmer for the rest of his career.

Nolan’s antics were legendary & those that knew him have their own stories to tell. He was always the first person to make a joke, no matter how inappropriate it was & even if the timing was off. He was a man of faith, that always made sure his tithes were paid first because he knew God would take care of the rest.

Nolan enjoyed fishing, outings at the lake, bowling, softball, family vacations, attending church, playing golf, watching football, his corvette, riding motorcycles & WOMEN (hence 3 wives)!!!

This extraordinary man loved his family more than anything. Nolan was most proud of his daughters, even though one of them were supposed to be a boy, luckily Trent came along, and he finally got a bonus son. He took pride in teaching them responsibility, work ethic, faith in God, compassion, appreciation and respect for themselves and others. He also taught them things like – The roads are always the slickest when it first starts raining, how to maintain their vehicles, driving a stick shift, riding motorcycles, how to 2-step & get down on the dance floor. He passed on other traits as well, like his stubbornness, also known as determination.

Nolan (Big Papa) loved watching his grandchildren grow up, attending ALL their sporting events, dance recitals, school programs, graduations, wedding & many other extra curriculum activities; as well as teaching them inappropriate jokes and valuable lessons like – Don’t eat the yellow snow!

Nolan’s legacy will live on through his daughters Ammy Michell Butler, Amanda Kaye Butler, Jenifer Lynn Butler; his bonus children Natessa (Matt) Harp; Trent (Blakely) Riley and several foster children; his grandchildren Adrian Devonte, Devin (Dejshia), Jade, Damon, Donte, Jalynn, Jasmin, Donavin, Dakota, Jaycee, Dominic, Archie, Carlee, Aiden, Oliver and several other bonus ones; and his great grandchild Chanel. He is further survived by his brother Charles (Cathy) Butler; sister Shannon (David) Walker; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Nolan’s passage to eternal life with his Heavenly Father is preceded in death by wife#3 Juanita; his parents Harry Lee & Berdina Jane; brother Harry Keith Butler; sister Judy Lynn Henderson; in-law Mary Jean Butler; and numerous other family members who we know were there to welcome him a Heaven’s gate.

Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Nolan managed his illness with strength, faith & humor. He wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his children & grandchildren, who he adored more than anything else in the world.

Family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, September 28th at Matthews Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery Edmond, OK.
