Mary M. Mullennix
November 22, 1915 – November 7, 2022
Mary entered this life on November 22, 1915, in Beckham County near Carter Oklahoma and went on to join our Lord on November 7, 2022, at the amazing age of 106 years 11 months and 16 days.
Mary was 5th in line of 8 children born to Edgar and Agnes Breeze (Bickett). She attended school in Carter where she met and married Albert (Ab) Mullennix in 1931, a farmer. To this union were born four daughters (Velta Northrip (Jack) (D), Freeda Ponder (Bill) (D), Janice (D) Ewer (Alton) and Sue Taylor (Jerry). These unions produced 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren. Ab often referred to their 4 daughters as his 4 Queens.
Mary and Ab spent most of their life together on the farm near Carter until his death in 1990 in Sayre where they had moved a few years earlier. Mary worked for a few years in a department store in Sayre selling ladies clothing and shoes. She also loved to sew and quilt and was a charter member of the Kempton quilting club for many years. Many of her family and friends still enjoy the patchwork quilts that she “put up” at the club meetings.
After Ab’s death Mary sold their house and moved to Elk City where she lived independently for many years and was an active member in the First Methodist Church where she had many friends.
Later, she decided to move to Edmond this would be the first time in her life that she lived outside Beckham County. Over the Thanksgiving holiday of 2012 she moved while she was young enough to still make friends. Make friends she did at Tealridge. She met Jo Ann Renfroe, and they became best of friends and had great times together.
COVID stopped the fun for a time, and she became a homemaker once again. She missed visiting with her friends while Tealridge was closed.
When she reached 100, she decided to retire from driving. After all, her license was expiring, and her car insurance was due. How much longer could she have to live and drive. Turns out she probably could have paid the insurance premium and kept on driving. But she had the services of chauffer Risley, and she enjoyed that association.
One thing about Mary was that she enjoyed life wherever she was. She always made the best of everything. Whenever HER NAME IS MENTIONED there’s always a smile on YOUR face.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday November 12, 2022, at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Carter Cemetery, Carter, Oklahoma on Tuesday November 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m.
