1933 – 2022

Mary Lou Cardenas was born in Buffalo, OK to Herschel and Gertrude Whaley on November 18, 1933. She went to school in Arkansas City, KS, and attended Cowley County College, as well as Independence Baptist College in Ardmore, OK. She married Carl Wood on April 1, 1954, was a full time mother, worked at the Lone Wolf Coop after her children were grown, and later worked briefly with her brother in OKC. She later married Bob Cardenas and lived in Edmond for several yrs. She was an accomplished pianist, and she and her sisters recorded 2 CDs and sang in many churches. She had resided in Lawton, OK for the past 14 yrs.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, two sisters, Jana Noble and Judy Kile, 3 brothers, Charles Whaley, Delbert Whaley, and David Whaley, two sisters in law Virginia Whaley and Bernice Whaley. She is survived by her two daughters Carlene Sharp and spouse Steve of Dean, TX, Connie Brunker and spouse Dale of Cache, OK, and her son Mike Wood and spouse Annette of Weatherford, OK, one sister Linda Reazin of Wichita, KS, one brother Larry Whaley of Cleveland, OK, 2 brothers in law, Galen Noble of Arkansas City, KS, and Ray Kile of Rockwall, TX, and one sister in law, Kay Whaley of Wichita, KS. She leaves a legacy of 10 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

After an extended illness, God mercifully called Mary home on Saturday, August 13, 2022.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Bethany Cemetery in Wellington, Kansas.
