Lorena Susanna Crouse

Lorena Susanna Crouse

March 7, 1930 – September 9, 2022

Lorena (Sue) Crouse entered eternal life at 92 years of age on Friday, September 9, 2022. Her loving spirit is carried on by her five children, 9 grandchildren, one surviving sibling, a very special niece, Leila Armstrong, who helped care for her at the end of her life, and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life.

She was known for her can-do attitude in life, since she was born into the Depression Era on March 7, 1930 in a Sod House with no electricity or running water. She had many appropriate sayings such as “I’m alright, the world’s all wrong!”  She could have given any contestant on the Wheel of Fortune a run for their money!  Was someone in need?  She would jump at the opportunity and spent many hours baking peanut butter cookies for the homeless in OKC, and making sandwiches to hand out on Sunday mornings in downtown OKC.  Those who know her well have been blessed many times by her generosity with kitchen goodies and hand crocheted scrubbies, as well as her bubbly attitude.

She was married for 54 years to Robert Crouse, a career Navy Hospital Corpsman E8 Senior Chief. They married in April, 1951, and she toured the world and the United States with him during his long career, making lifelong friends and collecting recipes everywhere they went.

Throughout her life, Lorena was always up for an adventure!  At the young age of 81, she went on her first ever tent camping trip with her daughter and grandkids to Colorado, where she also whitewater rafted for the first time in her life as well. Independent and energetic as ever, Lorena drove until just months before she went home to be with Jesus, her Lord and savior. She stayed active in her community and could be found playing Mexican Train dominos with her friends twice each week.  In the past few years in Guthrie, Lorena spent many hours chatting together with her special friends & neighbors on their respective porches.  You could also find her working every week on scrubbies to be given away and teaching other friends how to crochet scrubbies too.  She made a special baby quilt for every grandchild as well as a large, much treasured Raggedy Ann or Andy with their name embroidered on the heart.  Her list of handwritten Christmas cards to send out each year was long.  Her entire family and many friends were able join her to celebrate her 90th birthday in a big bash that she loved and talked about frequently.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren whose photos she would share with prospective friends in the checkout line: Mike (Dave) (wife Cindy, child Jennifer); James (wife Barbara); Dale (wife Charlotte, children Nathan and Nicholas); Neva (husband Todd, children Cole and Jena); and Doug (wife Pamela, children Stephanie, Kelton, Caden, and Sawyer); sister May; niece Leila; and many other nieces, nephews, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten.

Lorena is predeceased by her husband, Robert, by an infant son, Stephen Lawrence, and by six siblings, William, Asel, Louise, Isaac, George, and Henry.

She is dearly loved by all her family, and will be greatly and deeply missed.

Please join us to celebrate her life on Thursday September 15, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Community Church in Guthrie for a Memorial Service & Fellowship Reception to follow. Community Church is located at 512 E. Seward Rd, Guthrie OK 73044.  Flowers or other remembrances can be sent to Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, OK, who is helping to coordinate the memorial service.
