Linda Jean Ash

March 19, 1967 – July 29, 2022

Linda Jean (Nestander) Ash, 55, of Edmond, Oklahoma, died on July 29, surrounded by loved ones, after an almost year-long battle with metastatic melanoma.

Linda was born on March 19, 1967, to Charles and Doris Nestander in Omaha, Nebraska. The family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, in 1979, where she attended middle school and graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in 1985. Following graduation, she attended Central State University, now University of Central Oklahoma, where she was an active member of Sigma Kappa sorority. She later left college and pursued training and became certified in medical transcription at Francis Tuttle Technology Center.

Following certification, she worked at various medical facilities in Oklahoma City, became certified in medical coding, and most recently worked as a medical coder at Oklahoma Heart Hospital.

More than anything, Linda loved her two children, Tyler (28) and Hannah (23). She made her home a gathering place for all their friends, keeping a refrigerator stocked with popsicles and other treats. She loved her family and was the coordinator of all family gatherings – holidays, birthdays, Easter egg dying (even into adulthood), and the annual Nestander Family Cookie Baking Day. She was a natural caregiver, staying with her parents as they aged and needed additional assistance.

She is survived by her son Tyler Ash and his wife Cierra (Donker) Ash; her daughter Hannah Ash; her parents Charles and Doris Nestander; her sisters Karen Kurtz, Diane Nestande, and Jodi Nestander; niece Rebecca Arbuthnot; nephews Casey Arbuthnot and Ben Arbuthnot; and her ornery cats Phineas and Ferb.

A Rosary for the deceased will be held at Matthews Funeral Home at 6:30 PM on Monday, August 8, 2022.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, with a reception immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Adopt Meow, the Women’s Research & BGLTQ+ Student Center, or the Melanoma Research Foundation.
