Leroy Dean Mastell, 91, passed away May 20, 2022, in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was born on November 11, 1930, in Harvey, Illinois, to Dorothy and Frank Mastell. Growing up, Lee enjoyed ice skating, fishing, hunting, golfing, ballroom dancing and working on cars. Lee graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948 and went straight into military service where he served in the Army 82D Airborne Division. Lee then began his working career for Rockwell International installing parking meters around the country.
Lee married his wife of 63 years, Wilma Baillie Mastell, in Canton, Ohio, on September 28, 1957. They had a five-year honeymoon traveling across the southeast part of the US, while Lee continued to work for Rockwell.
Lee and Wilma had their son Scott Mastell in 1962 while living in Houston, Texas. Lee began working for Conoco Plastic – Carlon, which is where he was first introduced to working with PVC pipe. In 1966, they had their daughter Laurie Mastell Miller in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in 1971 where they lived for the last 52 years.
While Scott and Laurie were growing up, Lee was a father figure to all their friends. The Mastell house was a meeting place for everyone to play yard games, get their car fixed, ride motorcycles and have a grilled cheese. Lee constantly had a spotless car and garage and a perfectly groomed yard.
In 1978, Lee founded Lee Mastell and Associates a manufactures rep agency in the water and wastewater industry, which primarily marketed PVC pipe to municipalities. Lee introduced PVC pipe, Strong Seal and WrapidSeal to the United States market and grew a successful business. Wilma worked alongside Lee assisting with the administrative tasks and accounting. Scott joined the family business in 1987 and worked alongside his dad for over 28 years. They enjoyed traveling together to call on cities and consulting engineers across the Midwest.
Lee enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on his Oklahoma State University Cowboys, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Cleveland Browns. Lee loved animals and enjoyed the many pets he had. Later in life, he enjoyed watching western films in the sunroom and discussing old business stories with Scott.
