Leonard Mathias Reynen, Jr.

1932 – 2022

Leonard Mathias Reynen, Jr was born February 9th, 1932, in San Pedro, California to Leonard Mathias Reynen, Sr and Anna Van Andel. He graduated from high school in Eugene, Oregon.

Leonard joined the Air Force in 1951 during the Korean War and retired after 20 years of honorable service to our country. During his service, he was chief engineer on the C-7A Caribou and C-130 Hercules transport aircrafts, where he logged thousands of flight hours all throughout the Pacific. In addition to flying in and out of Vietnam in the 1950’s, he also completed one tour in Vietnam beginning in 1968 supplying Army Special Forces. Leonard was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, which is awarded to any persons who distinguish themselves by single acts of heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight.

After retiring from the Air Force, Len attended night school earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Central Oklahoma, while working civil service for the Air Force at Tinker Air Force Base. He retired from Tinker after 20 years as a Flight Manual Manager where he represented our government when negotiating with NATO and aircraft contractors. Among the aircraft he oversaw, Air Force One and AWACS were most notable.

Leonard was a man of unfaltering integrity, held an incredibly strong work ethic and could captivate an audience with his life stories. He was deeply loved and with his passing our world is less one “good man”.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy Lynn Reynen, as well as his daughter Kathleen Lynn Reynen and step-children Terrie K. Harjo, Karrmen R. Tapley, James W. McCoy and wife Cindy.
