Lendon Shotts
1936-2022
Lendon Shotts was born on September 18, 1936, along with his twin brother Landon to Charlie and Laura Shotts. They were the youngest of five. He was born in Oklahoma City and grew up on a farm near Rush Springs. He moved to Edmond, OK to attend Central State where he earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. While in Edmond, he met the love of his life Arwanna. They met while working his aunt’s café. Shortly thereafter they were married on August 16, 1957.
They welcomed daughter Michelle and a couple years later, daughter Debbie. Then he obtained his master’s degree in industrial arts. He taught physical education and industrial arts at Star Spencer. They moved to Colorado to raise their family. He worked as the Assistant Principal for Valley High School from 1972-1980. Then he was the Principal at Gilcrest Elementary from 1980-1997. After he retired, they moved back to Edmond, OK to be near their grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with family, woodworking in his shop, the mountain view of Colorado from the front porch of their cabin, hunting and fishing, watching westerns, attending OU games with James Lauderdale, and eating ice cream.
Lendon was a man of great faith. He served as an elder in Greeley, CO for 14 years. He also served as an elder at Edmond Church of Christ for 16 years. He enjoyed many mission trips to Mexico and Nicaragua.
Lendon kept the faith and finished the race on Sunday, April 10, 2022. He is proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Treba Simons, brothers Thomas Shotts and Landon Shotts, and son-in-law Brent Wiederstein.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Arwanna, daughter Michelle Cecil and Debbie Wiederstein, and grandchildren Ryan Wiederstein, Makayla Engle and husband Logan, Cara Day and husband Sam, Devan Wiederstein and fiancé Seth Nall all of Edmond and sister Veralyn Bea Dunn of Chickasha along with many nieces and nephews.
A public viewing will be held from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday April 14, 2022, at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond. A celebration of Lendon’s life will be held Friday April 15, 2022, at 10:00 am at the Edmond Church of Christ.
