Kenneth G. Wieland
1938-2022
Kenneth “Ken” George Wieland, 84, peacefully passed away on Wednesday November 17, 2022. He was born in Joliet, Illinois to the late Fred and Leona (Harnack) Wieland. Ken was the beloved husband to Shelby (Gilkerson), loving father of Renee (Mark) Fabian and Daryl (Linda) Wieland; grandfather of Megan Fabian, Blake Fabian, Ted (Julie) Wieland, Keegan Wieland, and Jay Wieland; brother to Marcella Tewes, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He spent most of his career with Case/International Harvester as a member of the warranty department. He was known as being the reasonable former mechanic who grew up on a farm that had walked in the shoes of the farmer. He made many friends throughout his life by being trustworthy, level-headed; all with an infectious happy-go-lucky attitude. Ken volunteered as a Boy Scout troop leader as well as served in many roles at church to include board member, usher, and on occasions, unsolicited singer from the back of the church.
Ken loved Ford trucks, anything about his kids and grandkids as well as the black and red colors of International Harvester and the Knights of Lincoln-Way High School. He spent unmeasurable hours attending baton twirling competitions as well as baseball and basketball games watching and supporting his kids – win or lose. There wasn’t a project around the house (or frankly a neighbor’s house) that he wasn’t willing to jump in and solve. With a whistle on his lips and a toolbelt around his waist he was happiest solving problems and helping others.
A service for family and friends will be held 2pm November 29, 2022 at First United Methodist Church 305 E Hurd St, Edmond, OK 73034. Flowers are welcome; monetary donations in memory of Ken may be sent to First United Methodist Church 305 E Hurd St, Edmond, OK 73034.
