Joyce Adell Trimmer
1934 – 2022
Joyce Trimmer went to be with Jesus April 19, 2022. Joyce was born in Morrilton, AR, to Thomas Orville and Dessie Burnett Scroggins on October 30, 1934. She graduated from Fullerton high school in 1952 and went on to attend Abilene Christian College. She met the love of her life Jim Trimmer while he was on leave from the Navy. They were married New Years Eve, 1953.
Their life of service working with the Churches of Christ took them across the globe as they served in Texas, the Philippine Islands, California, and finally Washington state. Joyce always valued education and, while a mother of three, fulfilled a lifelong dream of completing her bachelor’s degree from Cal State Bakersfield. In addition to her role as Jim’s partner in ministry throughout his 41 years serving the church, Joyce held a variety of roles on staff at churches and at Sunrise Christian School in Bakersfield, CA, where she led the school as principal. In addition to her work, Joyce enjoyed camping with her family; motorcycle rides with Jim; hosting countless ladies Bible studies and gatherings over the years; and enjoying a cup of coffee and a laugh with those she loved. She touched many lives with her grace and hospitality. She was a devoted and loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Beckie Gasvoda and husband John of Oklahoma City, OK and Jennifer Rice and husband Rob of Cincinnati, OH; son, Brian Trimmer and wife Heather of Camarillo, CA; sister, Jan Tate of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren and their spouses; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and countless others who loved her.
In remembrance of Joyce, the family would like to share the award-winning short documentary film, I Remember, directed by her grandchildren Matt Rice & Kaylee Tran.
