Johanna Lou Johannsen-Gormley
1937 – 2022
Johanna Lou Johannsen-Gormley, was born September 26th, 1937, in Newcastle, Wyoming and passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on September 22nd, 2022, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, surrounded by her family.
She spent her life caring for others –she followed in the footsteps of her mother and worked as a nurse for 42 years at Southwest Medical and Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She raised three wonderful children on her own, tapping into the well-known Grandma Jo grit and determination to push her through every obstacle.
In her later years, you could find her tending to her garden, rounding up her beloved chickens, or crocheting one of her many blue-ribbon winning doilies. On Thursdays after bowling on the morning league, she would play Mahjongg for a few hours with the usual crew. Every year for Christmas, she would sew matching handmaid vests for the entire family for our gatherings. She would always put family before herself. She was kind and considerate toward everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by Mabel Johannsen (mother), Frederick P.H. Johannsen (father), Clarence L. Johannsen (brother), and Kinsler Schroeder (great-grandson). Johanna is survived by her brother: Frederick Johannsen; children: Robert Gormley & wife Brenda Gormley, Amelia E. (Gormley) McKnight & husband Kenton McKnight, Amanda E. (Gormley) Schmitz & husband Allen Schmitz; grandchildren: J.T. Schroeder & Mary Davis Shroeder, Nichole Schmitz-Hicks & Greg Hicks, Kyle McKnight & Mackenzie Carpenter-McKnight, Kristen Schmitz-Gothard & Brady Gothard, and Cassidy McKnight; and great-grandchildren: Kasen Schroeder, Ellie Hicks, Keaton Davis, Alex Davis, Patrick Davis, Jay Davis, and Lucas McKnight.
