Jo Elaine Royse
July 26, 1938 – May 4, 2022
Jo Elaine Royse was born in Oklahoma City on July 26, 1938. She went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2022, in El Reno, Oklahoma. Jo graduated from Guthrie High School in 1956 and attended Central State College, where she graduated in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Jo’s entire teaching career was spent in various schools for Oklahoma City Public Schools. She also had a couple of years working at Edmond Flower Shop and was an assistant in the Government Documents Department at Central State University Library. Jo married Robert Gerald Royse on August 16, 1958, at the Y Chapel on Central’s campus. Their daughter, Shana, was born in 1966. Jo was a member of various clubs and organizations, including the Modern chapter of Oklahoma Home and Community Education, Beta Chi chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, and Elizabeth Circle Bible Study at First United Methodist Church of Edmond. She had many hobbies, including sewing, crafting, reading and watching, mysteries, and cardmaking. Her greatest joy was watching her granddaughter, Amanda grow. She attended every dance recital Amanda had, along with every other performance she was in. Jo is survived by her daughter, Shana, son-in-law, Robert, and granddaughter, Amanda, all of El Reno. Her nephew, Doug Fent, niece, Sandy Fent of San Mateo, California, and numerous friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Opal Korn, her husband, Robert Royse, her sister, Jean Fent, and her grandson, Shane Robert Hurst. In lieu of flowers, the family request that you send a friend or family member a card via snail mail in memory of Jo.
Public visitation will be held Monday, May 9, 2022, at Matthews Funeral Home from 1:00PM to 8:00PM, with family present to greet friends and guests from 5:00PM to 7:00PM.
Services will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at the Matthews Funeral Chapel beginning at 2:00PM. Interment is to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, OK.
