Jarvis Lee Collins
Jarvis Collins was born in Enterprise, West Virginia on August 1, 1932. He passed away in his sleep the morning of September 27 in Edmond, Oklahoma.
After graduating high school Jarvis enlisted in the Navy and traveled the world on the USS Wasp aircraft carrier. After the Navy, he returned to Buckhannon, West Virginia where he met his future wife, Helen Alkire. They married in 1955. Jarvis attended West Virginia Wesleyan University and graduated with a math major and a minor in religion.
Jarvis worked his entire career with coal companies and retired in 1985 as VP of Purchasing for Consolidation Coal Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Jarvis always enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. After retiring, Jarvis and Helen traveled in an RV for several years to all lower 48 states and Alaska. They wintered in Ft Myers, Florida for more than 20 years finally moving to Edmond, Oklahoma in 2017 to be near family.
Jarvis is survived by his wife of 67 years Helen and his two sons, Gary and Terri of Katy, TX and Bill and Sandy of Edmond, OK. The family includes three adult grandchildren, Michael and wife Katie Collins, Carrie and husband Jeremy Roberts and Sophie Collins. There are also five great-granddaughters Morgandi, Corinne, Darci, Nora, and Penny, all of which live in Edmond. Jarvis has one surviving sibling, his sister Joanne Dawson of Fairmont, WV.
Jarvis will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
