Jared Thomas “J.T.” Mills
1980-2022
Jared Mills, age 41, a resident of Edmond, OK passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2022. Jared was a loving father, devoted husband, and a good friend and mentor to many members of his church and community. Jared never met a stranger. He had the ability to make friends with anybody he met, from a youth member at his church to a stranger on the street. He always had a genuine and welcoming smile that would light up a room. This huge personality empowered him to become a successful business owner, a highly influential youth leader, and a trusted friend to all.
Jared was born on March 4, 1980, in Moore, Oklahoma to Bill and the late Peggy Mills. He was raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma where he attended Hilldale Public Schools, graduating in 1998. Jared pursued his education from Northeastern State University, graduating in May 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. At NSU he was an active member of the Phi Sigma Chi fraternity. During his time at Northeastern State University, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a Human Resource Officer from 1999-2012. While enlisted, he served on multiple deployments, with one being the historical Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Jared worked hard and was passionate about every one of his careers. From restaurant owner to starting his own an insurance business in 2016, he was 100% committed to being the best at whatever venture he had at the time. He was not scared to jump into new opportunities, especially if he knew it would provide for his family.
Although Jared loved working and loved being around people, nothing made him happier than being with his wife, Amber, and daughter Claire. Jared met the love of his life, Amber, in July 2013 and then, without hesitation, he married his love in May 2014. Just when he thought he couldn’t love anybody more than Amber, his beautiful daughter Claire was born in 2016. She definitely inherited his spunky personality, never a dull moment when they were together. He never missed an opportunity to spend quality time with Amber and Claire, especially when it came to donut dates with Claire. He would often say that his family was his biggest accomplishment in life.
Jared’s life was forever changed when he became a fully devoted follower of Christ. He shared this passion by actively participating in the Crossings Church. He volunteered with the youth group every Wednesday night, providing them with a strong, positive mentor who they will always cherish.
Jared was a huge sports fanatic with a passion for trading sports cards. He channeled this love for sports by being on the Executive Council for the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and by being involved in the Jim Thorpe Award Selection Committee. He also loved the outdoors, especially sunsets at the Ranch. He gave back to his community by volunteering his time on the ELOT (Edmond Leaders of Tomorrow), Edmond Chamber of Commerce, and Edmond Board of Realtors.
Jared is preceded in death by his mother (Peggy Mills) and survived by his loving wife Amber (Lotspeich), daughter Claire, father (Bill), siblings, and a loving extended family. Jared had passion and love in everything he did. This love will forever be remembered and stamped in the hearts of many.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Crossings Edmond, 1500 W Covell Rd. Edmond, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Folds of Honor Department #13 Tulsa, OK 74182.
