Janice Blankinship
1947-2022
Jan Lynn Ross was born in the small town of Holdenville OK to Guy and Ida Ross in 1947. They had a mom-and-pop grocery store which was just across the gravel driveway that separated their house and the store. She loved her mom and dad and loved just being where they were. She loved the rain and to be in the store with her parents watching the rain was just fine. You could find her sitting at her dad’s roll top desk with a comic book, a bag of Fritos and a coke. She played basketball in grade school as #00 and once won the game by making a basket from mid court. She went to high school in Holdenville and after graduating from high school she attended Oklahoma Christian College now known as Oklahoma Christian University. She taught school for a while but gave that up because, as she said, she couldn’t stand the high pay and prestige. She worked a few years at Hertz Rent a Car where she met her future husband, Vernon Blankinship. They married on February 23, 1973. They would have been married for 50 years in February of 2023. After marrying Vernon, she went to work at Southwestern Bell and worked in the engineering dept. as an Auto CAD specialist drawing up prints where new phone line cable was to be installed. She retired from SBC in October of 2003. She liked to ride on the back of her and her husband’s Goldwing motorcycle. She did learn how to ride her own small motorcycle but after a while decided she liked driving golf balls better and riding with her husband. Jan was a member at Edmond First Baptist Church. She loved singing in the choir more than anything else. There were many people in her church that knew and loved her, and a host of other people would call her a friend. She really liked the Wednesday nights at church where she could have a meal with all her friends, attend a class and then finish up with about an hour and half of choir practice.
Funeral Service for Janice Blankinship will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Edmond First Baptist Church at 10:00 AM.
