Evelyn I. Leonard Mixer was born April 23, 1920, in Binger, Oklahoma to Oral and Addie Irene (Finley) Leonard. Being the oldest of 4 kids Evelyn had the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings at the age of 10 while her parents worked in town. In 1934 Evelyn met the love of her life Orren Mixer when they were both 14. Upon their high school graduation in 1938 Orren went to Kansas City to pursue his art career and Evelyn went to work at the Federal Reserve Bank in Oklahoma City. Orren made many trips home to see the love of his life before they were married on August 30,1941 at the age of 21. In 1943 the Navy assigned Orren to Chicago and they left their beloved Oklahoma. Their first son Orren III was born in 1945 during their stay in Chicago. On January 5, 1946, Orren was honorably discharged from the Navy, and the young family headed back to Oklahoma to purchase a small place east of Edmond now known as the Circle M Ranch.
Evelyn attended the First Baptist Church in Edmond and was baptized in 1947 at the age of 27. Evelyn and Orren would raise four sons at the Circle M Ranch. Orren III (Trey), Jon, Leon, and Robert. She was not only the seamstress, cook and chauffeur for her family, she also managed Orren’s growing artist career. She supported her husband and sons with love and care. She was known to say her first love was her Heavenly Father, then her husband, family, and friends.
