Dewayne Darling Powers
1935 – 2022
Dewayne Darling Powers was born on November 27, 1935, in Maramec, Oklahoma and died on February 3, 2022. Dewayne was married to Carolyn Jane Wisley on June 9, 1956, and she was by his side as he took his last breath, with nearly 66 years of marriage and memories between them. Dewayne worked hard throughout life to provide for his family, beginning work for the Atchison Topeka and Sante Fe Railroad in 1952. In 1956, he began work in the oil field industry as a roughneck and derrick hand. In 1960 he took a job at Indian Electric Cooperative, where he would work until retirement in 1995. While at Indian Electric, he progressed from working the brush crew to being a lineman and eventually a line foreman by working hard and completing multiple training programs. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as the Safety Coordinator for the Cooperative, a job that brought him tremendous personal satisfaction as line crew safety was his passion. Dewayne and Carolyn expanded their family with the birth of Matthew Wayne in 1965 and again with Sabrina Deann in 1968. Dewayne will be remembered most for his acts of service and kindness to his family. Matt and Sabrina will remember the yearly vacations that he made sure they took throughout their childhood, the times he was present in their lives when they needed advice as young adults, and the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his children Matthew Powers and wife Cindee of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Sabrina Phillips and husband Nathan of Jacksonville, Florida. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Corbin Powers, Cameron Powers, Victoria Balbes, and Amanda Phillips, as well as three great-grandchildren: Isaac Balbes, Valerie Balbes, and Alice Balbes.
