David Lawrence Myers

David Lawrence Myers

David L Myers was born in Shawnee Oklahoma on August 6, 1941, to Harry W. Myers and Helen D. Myers.  David was the youngest of his siblings, Ken Myers, Betty (Myers) McCullough, Harry Myers and Art Myers. David stepped into Heaven April 19, 2022.

David’s love for music began at a very early age.  He played Trombone and was in the band through high school.  Music and singing were two of his great loves. David was an excellent bowler, loved the game of golf and being outdoors.  He kept a beautiful yard with flowers and a vegetable garden.

David began working at Tinker Air Force Base in 1961.  His career at Tinker was important to him.  As he led a team of over 40 people to supply the AWACS planes both in war and peace time, he knew what they did was crucial to the mission ahead.  David retired from Tinker after 29 years of service.

David served his country in the Air Force Reserve unit for 10 years.

David’s love for his family was evident as each of his children grew and began families of their own.  He always stressed the importance of family and the unconditional love that should be shared.  David had a way of making everyone feel very special.  He had a sweet gift of quiet, unassuming, unobtrusive devotion to his family and friends.  He will be missed by so many.

David and Rita (Colvin) Myers were married March 22, 1978.  We have just celebrated 44 years together.

David’s passing comes with so much sadness but also absolute assurance.  We know he is with Jesus, and we will see him again. We believe his sweet little Sophie Grace was there waiting for him.

David is survived by his wife Rita Myers, children; Adam Colvin with children Jaicey, Jacob and Jaden, Scott and wife Courtney Myers with children Blakeley, Dylan and Griffin, David “Chris” and wife Kelly Myers with children Cody and Carson, Julie (Myers) and husband Jim Bryant with children Eleshea, Truett and Jordan and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Ken Myers with children Don Myers and wife Sarah and Linda (Myers) Davis; also Jim Meyer and wife Sandy with daughter Erica Huff.

Rita and the family thank you so much for your prayers and support, your kindness and your love during what is the most difficult time we’ve faced.  My husband, their dad and papa are gone from this earth, but the precious memories we hold will bring great comfort and peace in the days to come.

I pray as you read this you know how very special you are to David and to us.  You are loved.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel.
