Briana Jo Greenemeyer

1976 – 2021

Briana Jo Greenemeyer, born January 28, 1976 with twin sister Kyle Painton in Wichita, Kansas to parents Stephen and Velma Greenemeyer. Briana resided in Marion, KS, briefly in Maumelle, AR and grew up in Edmond, OK. Briana graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in 1994 receiving a full academic scholarship to University of the Ozarks (U of O). Briana graduated from U of O cum laude with Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies.

Briana had many interests. As a youth she was involved in many activities like soccer, softball, tap, jazz, cross country and volleyball. She filled her high school days marching in the band color guard and concert band. In college she became more involved in environmental conservation and cleanup efforts in her local community. She made many new friends in college which encouraged her to become more adventurous. She vehemently enjoyed making bon fires, relaxing at Lake Texoma, going to beer tastings with her sister, brother and friends, gardening or anything pertaining to flowers, and spending time with her close family and friends swimming, having cookouts, laughing and enjoying life.

Briana found a professional home working for Avaya Technology Company in 2000. Over her 17-year career she made numerous close friends. Briana became known for spearheading fundraisers at work for various charity organizations by collecting donations, having bake sales, forming walking teams, and the frequent raffle/wager on football game. She had many adventures and shenanigans at and away from work with her many work family.

In 2011 Briana found her spiritual home with the members of Channing Unitarian Universalist Church in Edmond, OK. She became very active in the various events, groups, ladies’ lunches, game nights and services. She also was involved with the church board, including have a term as vice president then president. She enjoyed celebrating birthdays, solstice events, and various gatherings with her newfound and loving church family.

Briana and her twin sister Kyle were often inseparable, the balance to the other and independently different.  They were opposites but a harmonious complement to each other. Many people noted the unique communication they had together. Kyle was passionately by Briana’s side from birth, through her cancer journey and until her last breath.

In June 2017 Briana was suddenly diagnosed with a brain tumor which was determined to be melanoma. Having recovered from her surgery she began treatment with many side effects. In January 2018 her MRI showed to have leptomeningeal disease (LMD). Her almost 4-year journey of rotating treatments, clinical trials, side effects and bi-weekly trips to Houston became her routine. Briana assisted Kyle in running an online community of LMD patients and caregivers. Ultimately Briana’s inspiring and courageous journey ended on December 17, 2021 with family by her side.

Briana is survived by her twin sister Kyle Painton with husband Cory, her mother and stepfather Velma and Geary Wilson, her step-mother Patty Greenemeyer, step-brothers Geary Wilson, Chris Rabjohn and Ryan Wilson. She is proceeded in death by her father Stephen Greenemeyer. Briana is also loved and survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Service memorializing and celebrating Briana’s life to be held Thursday December 30th, 2021 at 6:00pm at the American Legion in Edmond, Ok.
