Bill Brashears

Bill Brashears

July 10, 1959 – February 23, 2022

Bill Brashears, 62, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed from this life on February 23, 2022.  He was a retired foreman with the Santa Fe Railroad, a United States Army Veteran of Special Forces, and also spent time as an Oklahoma State Trooper.

He loved to laugh and sing and, being the life of the party, would go to great lengths to make others laugh with him.  His hobbies included hunting, hiking, enjoying cruises from Alaska to the Caribbean and the South Pacific, and propagating fruit trees (he loved fruit!).  Bill was into classic cars, airplanes, and martial arts.  He was an awesome chef and truly enjoyed making culinary masterpieces.  Recently, he discovered a natural talent for oil painting.  He took great pleasure song-leading at his Church.

Bill grew up exploring the Southern California hills, surfing the waves at Laguna Beach, and biking / skateboarding all over Mission Viejo.  He and his childhood friends paved the way for customizing motocross bikes and developing modern skateboard parks.  Bill even had a rare invitation to visit Jacques Cousteau’s research vessel “The Calypso,” which fueled his life-long interest in science and conservation.  Later, he and his family moved back to Ada, Oklahoma, where he continued his childhood and graduated from Ada High School in 1977.  He later studied pre-med in college.

Bill was a life-long member of the Church of Christ.  He spent a lot of time sharing the gospel with others, especially his dad, who he personally baptized.  This was one of the most joyous days of his life, with another being the birth of his son, Ben.

Bill is survived by his son Ben, mother Josie (Murray) Brashears, brother Joe Brashears, sister Brenda McAdams, and his significant other Kolby Tinderholt.  He is preceded in death by his father Glen Brashears, grandparents O.J. and Alma (Byrd) Murray, and grandparents Eugene and Velma (Jones) Brashears.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 19th, 2022, at 10 AM and will be held in the chapel of Matthews Funeral Home of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

~ John 4:1-3

I’M FREE

Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free,

I’m following the path God laid for me

I took his hand when I heard him call,

I turned my back and left it all

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work or play

Tasks left undone must stay that way,

I’ve found that peace at the close of day

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow

My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,

Good friends, good times, my loved one’s touch

If my time seemed all too brief,

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief

Lift up your heart, rejoice with me,

God wanted me now, He set me free.
