Elizabeth Ruth (Betty) Schmid, 91, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Betty was born on October 23, 1930, to the late Paul and Charlotte Mohr Coyner. Betty was a devoted elementary teacher for 35 years; she pioneered the establishment of Developmental First Grade in Oklahoma. She believed every child deserves an enriching and affirming education in a setting they enjoyed. She was a member of the gardening club, and enjoyed playing volleyball, and square dancing.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Schmid, her parents, Paul and Charlotte Coyner, siblings, Pauline Coyner, Herbert Coyner, Robert Coyner, and Lou Arnwine, and granddaughter, Robyn Schmid Tiffie.

She leaves to cherish her memory; daughter, Ruth Baker and husband, Gary, sons, Robert Schmid and wife, Mary, Daniel Schmid and wife, Darla Wolitz, and Samuel Schmid and wife, Kim, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a host of other family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Betty’s name may be made to the Harold Schmid Scholarship Fund, and the Robyn’s Way Scholarship fund, both scholarships are available through the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, P.O. Box 1146, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73101-1146 or by going to the website, www.occf.org.
