James Dale Yocum
1959-2021
James Dale Yocum was born on September 29, 1959, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He died December 17, 2021, at the age of 62 at his home in Edmond, OK.
He was the son of the late Jim Yocum, and Sue Helen Yocum of the home. He is survived by his sister, Cindy Davis and her husband Glen, of Jones, Oklahoma; aunts, Jeannie Patten of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and Sue Yocum of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dale worked for his parents in their auto parts business before moving to Colorado, where he became an avid hiker. He hiked numerous mountains, the tallest of which was 14,309 ft. He was also a woodsman and had a very good following of people who knew that he would leave the good trees alone, clearing out only the dead ones to help alleviate fire danger. He lived in Colorado for many years until his type I diabetes forced him to leave and return to Oklahoma.
He loved God and family and country, and always made sure that his parents had an American flag hanging. He made sure that it was replaced whenever it became the slightest bit worn. He was a familiar figure riding his bicycle to church at Memorial Road church of Christ every Sunday, no matter the weather.
Memorial services on January 15th have been postponed due to Covid 19. Services will be held at a later date.
