Herbert Neal Listen

1935-2025

Herbert Neal Listen was born on April 2, 1935, to Carl V. Listen and Doris Logdons Listen at his grandparents’ home on 2nd street.  He was raised his entire life at 15th and Bryant. 

He graduated from Edmond High School in 1954 and went to work for the County District 3 Highway in 1955 for over 28 years.  Following his job with the County he then went on to work for Harper Oil, which later became Apache Oil.  He retired after 33 years at the age of 84.  He married Wilma (Rieker) Listen on June 16, 1956.  Herb farmed all around Edmond and had cattle for over 50 plus years.  He proudly served in the United States Army from 1957-1959, being stationed in Germany for 1 ½ years of the 2 years he served.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, in-laws, Leonard & Cleo Rieker, brothers, Vernon, Wayne, Louis, Wesley and Darrell, Sister, Norma Jean, and brother in-law, Joe Rieker.

He is survived by his wife Wilma daughters, Vickie Listen Ewers, Dianna Listen Matthews and husband Terry.  His sister, Dorothy Listen Loveless and husband Bob.  His granchildren, Phillip Ewers and wife Lisa, Bryan Matthews and wife Jill and Darrick Matthews and wife Jesse.

Great grandchildren, Riley Ewers Burns, (Thomas), Reagan Ewers, Dalton Matthews (Kenzie), Dakota Matthews, Cheyenne Matthews, and Wyatt Matthews, Great Great grandchildren, Warren Burns, Kayzlee Matthews and step Great Great grandson, T.J. Burns as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 27th from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel.
