Herb followed his dad’s footsteps into furniture upholstery and went to Phoenix in the mid 50’s.

Married Joyce Nard October 8th, 1957. Came back to Oklahoma and went into the mattress business in early 1960’s and ran three plants nationwide for Spring Air. Him and his family moved to Mustang in 1972 where Herb was a home builder. In 1981, he had an opportunity to purchase a mattress factory in Edmond, Adair’s Sleepworld, which he owned until 2004 but up until his death he was working part time doing furniture upholstery.

He attended Fairview Baptist Church. In September 2017, he married Marilyn Alsup.

His brother – Lowell said:

“Herb was an upholsterer by trade but building old cars was his passion. Him and I travelled the country chasing cars and parts, sleeping in the back of Herbs Suburban at numerous swap-meets so that we could hit the rows of parts early.

We travelled to Canada, Texas, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and beyond chasing cars to build.

Herb built cars from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and a 60’s Porsche cabriolet all built with the Herb Kimball touch.”

“Herb loved to watch his kids, grandkids and great grandkids sporting events.

His passion was working on cars. It started in early life and continued until his death. Where most people could not wait until they finished a car so they could drive it, Herbs satisfaction came when the project was complete. He loved the challenge of building custom cars, solving problems that came along with most projects.

He was masterful and will leave a legacy.”

Herb Kimball was a dear friend and mentor to me. He was patient and thoughtful as he helped me work through old car restorations and repairs.
I have known him 40 years, and would trust him with anything I had. I am really going to miss him. I have Stage four lung cancer, and unable to attend services, but thinking and praying for your family and friends. Love you, Herb!

  3. I have known Herb for a long time and always appreciated talking with him about his projects. Going to miss him.
