Helen Virginia Flannigan

Flannigan, HelenHelen Virginia Flannigan left to be with the Lord on June 12, 2014 while rehabilitating from hip surgery in early May 2014. She was born on January 29, 1922 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Clyde and Luna (Adair) Summers. Brothers Billy Clyde and Joe Dean were born in 1926 and 1937 respectively. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1939 and later attended Business School in Oklahoma City.

She started her career with the Veterans Administration Hospital at Will Rogers Field, later moving to the current NE 13th location in 1953. She advanced from a doctor’s secretary to Senior Personnel Administrator before retiring in January 1997 after 49 years and 8 months. She received several commendations for her long service including one from then President, Bill Clinton.

Preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Luna Summers, younger Brother Bill Summers, Son Michael and daughter-in-law Nina Flannigan, she is survived by youngest Brother Joe and wife Sherry of Marble Falls, TX, three (3) Nephews, Bill Summers of Austin, TX, Dan Summers and Wife Isabelle of Round Rock, TX, Gary Summers and wife Mary of Waco, TX and four (4) Great-Nephews and two (2) Great-Nieces. Also by Grandson James Flannigan and Wife Kelly of Tucson, AZ, Grandson John Flannigan and Wife Elizabeth of Oklahoma City, Grandson Joshua Flannigan and Wife Elizabeth of East Pointe, GA, three (3) Great-Grandsons and Three (3) Great-Grand Daughters.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Sunday June 15, 2014 at Mathews Funeral Home in Edmond. Funeral Services will be in the funeral home chapel at 10:00 AM, Monday June 16, 2014 followed by internment at Sunny Lane Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
