Helen Marie Peterson

1929-2018

Helen B. Peterson left us on October 3, 2018 at the age of 89 following a brief illness. She was born on June 10, 1929 in Waukon, Iowa to G. Paul and Elisabeth Barthell. She grew up in Illinois but spent her summers at the beloved family farm in Iowa. Helen graduated high school in West Chicago, Illinois and continued her education at Colorado College in Colorado Springs where she earned her Bachelor degree in Geology. She met and married her college sweetheart James. After ten moves they landed in Edmond and she enjoyed living and participating in the Edmond Community for the past 44 years. Helen was a great homemaker always taking special care of her family and she also worked for an oil company for several years.

She loved nature, gardening, puzzling, needlepoint, quilting and reading and enjoyed spending time watching the birds and animals from her sunroom. Helen was an excellent cook and baker and her recipes remain family favorites. She loved spending time in the mountains in Wyoming and unwinding and learning at Rec Lab, an arts and crafts camp in northern Minnesota. She volunteered as a docent at the Oklahoma City Zoo and enjoyed memberships in PEO and AAUW. She enjoyed being an active member of the Santa Fe Presbyterian Church, including particiation in the Stephen Ministry. Helen was devoted to her family and provided much stability to her entire family.

Helen is preceeded in death by her parents; husband James Peterson; and daughter Paige Cummings.

She is survived by her son Mark Peterson and wife Valerie; daughter Sarah Blew;

Grandchildren: Natasha Neumann and husband David; Justin Blew and wife Kristy; Erica Fukuhara and husband Jim; Benjamin Petrerson and wife Jennie.

Great-grandchildren: Teya and Darren Fukuhara; Nate and Josie Peterson; Anthony and Olivia Neumann; and Alita and James Blew.

Sister Althea Bartlett and husband Willard; neices Beth Deal and Heather Anthony all of Portland, Oregon.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00A.M., Monday October 29, 2018 at the Santa Fe Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be sent to Alzheimer’s Association, Oklahoma Chapter, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
