1925 – 2024
Georgia N (Smith) Miller, age 98 of Edmond, OK passed away at home in the afternoon of Aug 2, 2024. Georgia sustained a fall at home which resulted in a severe head injury. She gradually deteriorated over several weeks and was brought home under hospice care. She was surrounded by family and caregivers. She peacefully slipped into the arms of Jesus.
She was administered final sacraments and prayer by Father Anthony Moon.
Georgia was born in Arkansas City, KS on December 11, 1925, to George J. Smith and Floy (Meek) Smith. Georgia attended high school in Enid, OK and graduated in 1943. She studied secretarial skills and utilized them, including the lost art of shorthand, at Vance Air Force Base in a civilian position. She enjoyed dancing at the USO clubs on weekends and was rumored to be quite good! Don and Georgia were married in August of 1946. Don studied architecture at Oklahoma A&M, now known as Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. Georgia continued her secretarial skills by working in the office of the Dean of Architecture. She continued as a homemaker, raising her three children.
During that time, Don worked in various capacities with Long-Bell Lumber. This company was eventually purchased by International Paper Company. They spent most of their time in Don’s last position with International Paper in Kansas City and Wichita, KS.
Don and Georgia moved to Edmond, OK in 2005 to be near family. They were interviewed for an in-depth study of longevity in Oklahoma marriages. The compiled data is still used today in course study at OSU. At his passing in 2021, Don and Georgia were only 2 months short of celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary.
Georgia is preceded in death by her parents, George and Floy (Meek) Smith, her sister Emiline and her brothers Donald and Kenneth. She is survived by her sister, Milda and her brother, Gary. The surviving family includes her three children; David (Donna) Miller of Newton, KS., Robert (Carolyn) Miller of Edmond, OK., and Michael Grey (Brian McCullough) of Seattle, WA. Don and Georgia have 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren.
